Know the Causes and Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis occurs when the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot, becomes inflamed. This can lead to pain and discomfort, particularly in the heel and arch of the foot. Here are some of the causes and symptoms of plantar fasciitis:

Causes:

  1. Overuse: Repeated stress and strain on the feet, such as from running or walking long distances, can cause the plantar fascia to become inflamed.
  2. Biomechanical issues: Flat feet, high arches, and other foot and ankle problems can stress the plantar fascia, leading to inflammation.
  3. Age: Plantar fasciitis is more common in individuals between 40 and 60.
  4. Obesity: Being overweight can increase the pressure on the feet and lead to plantar fascia inflammation.
  5. Certain types of exercise: Activities that involve repetitive impact, such as dancing or jumping, can also increase the risk of developing plantar fasciitis.

Symptoms:

  1. Pain in the heel or arch of the foot, particularly when standing or walking.
  2. Stiffness and tenderness in the affected area.
  3. A burning or sharp pain that may be more intense in the morning or after prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  4. Swelling and redness in the affected area in more severe cases.

If left untreated, plantar fasciitis can worsen and lead to chronic pain and disability. It's essential to seek treatment as soon as symptoms develop to avoid long-term complications.
