Understanding Laminectomy: Reasons and
Surgical Procedure

Laminectomy is performed to address conditions such as spinal stenosis, herniated discs, or tumors that cause compression of the spinal cord or nerves. The procedure is done for the following reasons:

During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision in the back and removes a section of the lamina using specialized instruments. This creates more room for the spinal cord and nerves, relieving pressure and reducing symptoms. In some cases, additional procedures such as spinal fusion may be performed to provide stability to the spine. The specifics of the surgery may vary depending on the individual case and the underlying condition being treated.
